The pops and scratches come over my headphones. This is something very different than the sounds coming from your iPod. Then the ambience is broken by a single tone, a voice, or a drum beat. You can tell that the clapper is made of wood as the hollow sound clack clack clacks. This is almost live. This is better than live because it’s crisp and perfectly clear. The Postal Service is playing a private show. It’s like I’m in the studio as they record their hits.
Last night I had the pleasure of having good company over to listen to records on my new turntable. It’s understated how high quality audio can transport you miraculously. The sappy side of me kept feeling that rush of emotions that I call being in love. As the first tones of a song would begin I’d look over to my guest and say, “there, there it is, that’s what it feels like when I’m in love.” It was the most honest thing I’ve felt in a long while.
For me it’s always felt like that filling up of warmth in my chest which spills over my lips into a full blown smile. The intriguing thing is that these are albums that I’ve listened to. I’ve probably burned them out with overplay. Though, listening to them with a good sound system makes them seem brand new. I’ve got Jenny Lewis whispering in my ear while Rainer Maria is telling me that it’s all going to be okay and it’s not my fault. All old friends whom are being introduced to me as new.
Enough about that, let’s get to what was covered yesterday.
Rainer Maria - Planetary
Rainer Maria - Rise
Ratatat - Lex
Jenny Lewis - Godspeed
The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
If anyone cares to come by and listen to music, please do so. My door is always open.
