Yesterday was the beginning of a new era. It seemed awe inspiring at the time like seeing a man on the moon but just wait. In five years or a decade we’ll reflect and realize just how monumental all of this really was. My was right in remarking that Obama is a once in fifty years president. We did it.

In Boulder Fall is in full swing. I went for a walk today and trounced through the specks of brown strewn along the street. I always remember Fall and Winter as that time of year when the sunset is most beautiful and the air is a little more severe than usual. The following Albums are ones that I think go well with the incoming tones of Fall and the atmosphere to be.

Coldplay / Parachutes
This is an older album filled with rich Fall like tones. From way back when Coldplay could be thought of as indie. The lyrics are soulful and the acoustic guitar balmy.

The National / Alligator
When I listen to the National I close my eyes and imagine the sun setting on a city street in November. The cold air visible by vapors billowing from a manhole cover. Street cars speedily making their way this way and that to their destinations. Getting home to your loved one couldn’t come any sooner.

Sea Wolf / Leaves in the River
This entire album is solid though one song in particular really makes it. Wait until about five p.m. then walk down main street listening to “You’re a Wolf”.

Elliot Smith / Either/Or
What could be more Fall than Elliot Smith? This album makes me miss growing up in the North East. My parents and I would pile into the car and drive to New York. All the while I’d lay in the back seat looking up at the brown trees passing by.
Sample: Say Yes

The Shins / Oh, Inverted World
The song that roped me in was “Caring is Creepy”. Listen to this album with good headphones and I promise the lead ins will sweep you away. The sophomoric voice with the edge of the instruments reminds me of sitting in the famous San Francisco Japanese Tea Garden while waiting for someone special to arrive.

Death Cab for Cutie / Plans
Out of all of the albums to me this is as Fall as it gets. My fondest memory has this album in the background as a soundtrack, while driving from the east coast to the west, my passenger sleeping blissfully on my shoulder. We can all relate to those harsh transitional times - Plans commiserates.
